What people come in for, by stage
These are things women tell us. They are not a list of conditions we treat, and not every stage is for every person.
Perimenopause
The years before periods stop, when things start to change.
Cycles that come early, late or not at all
Sleep that breaks around 3 a.m.
A mind that feels crowded
A short fuse
Menopause
A year without a period, and the first couple of years after.
Hot flashes and night sweats
Tired mornings
Aching joints
Low moods
After menopause
Years later, when the body has settled into something new.
Light sleep
Stiffness in the neck and back
Brain fog
A wish for something calm to do for yourself
Early or after surgery
When menopause arrives suddenly, or after an operation.
A sudden start to hot flashes
Sleep that has gone
Low energy
A lot of questions with no one to ask
What acupuncture does not do
We say this on every page because it matters.
It does not replace your doctor
Tests, a medical look and your medicines stay with them.
It is not hormone therapy
We never tell you to start, stop or change one. Talk to your prescriber.
It does not promise a result
People respond differently, and some feel nothing. We tell you if it is not helping.
When to see a doctor first
Bleeding after menopause, very heavy bleeding, chest pain, a racing heart, a new lump or a sudden severe headache needs a doctor, not an acupuncture visit. For chest pain, trouble breathing or fainting, call 911.
If you are in crisis, call or text 988 (the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline), any time. In an emergency, call 911.
