Acupuncture in Cranston, Rhode Island

Acupuncture for the years around menopause

A quiet, one-room practice for women in perimenopause and menopause. Anahit Mardirosian, a licensed acupuncturist, works next to your doctor and never in place of one.

Alongside your doctor

Who does what

Your doctor, nurse practitioner or midwife stays in charge of your medical care. Here is where acupuncture fits next to it.

  • What we do

We work on how you feel from day to day, at your pace.

    • Listen to how your days and nights have changed

    • Offer acupuncture, with ear seeds or moxibustion if you want them

    • Plan a short run of visits and tell you what we would do next

    • Write a short note to your doctor, if you ask us to

  • What your doctor does

These stay with the people who are trained and licensed for them.

    • Looks at your symptoms and your history

    • Orders tests and works out what is behind a symptom

    • Prescribes and adjusts your medicines, hormone therapy included

    • Tells you when something needs a closer look

What acupuncture does not do

Where it stops, and where your doctor starts

Acupuncture is one kind of care among several. We would rather say what it does not do before you book than after.

Acupuncture does not

  • Replace your doctor, your tests or your medicines

  • Stand in for hormone therapy, or tell you to start or stop it

  • Promise a result; people respond differently

  • Explain a symptom that needs a medical look, such as bleeding after menopause

Menopause, by stage

Tell us where you are in the change

People come in at different points. We plan around yours.

  • Perimenopause

Cycles that have shifted, nights that break, a mind that feels crowded. Visits follow your cycle if you still have one.

  • Menopause

A year without a period, and the hot flashes, night sweats and tired mornings people often come in for.

  • After menopause

Aching joints, light sleep, a body that feels new. Many people come back for a few visits a season.

  • Early or after surgery

When menopause arrives suddenly, we work alongside your doctor and tell them what we do.

Questions

Before you book

The questions women ask us first. The rest are on the questions page.

Do I need to see my doctor first?

If your symptoms have changed and you have not had a check-up since, yes, we ask you to. Heavy bleeding, any bleeding after menopause, chest pain, a new lump or a sudden change needs a doctor first. Acupuncture here sits next to your medical care and never replaces it.

Does it hurt?

Most people feel a quick pinch, a dull ache or nothing as a fine needle goes in. Tell us straight away if something feels sharp or wrong, and we adjust or stop.

Are the needles clean?

Every needle is sterile, used once and then discarded in a sharps container. Anahit washes her hands before each visit and wipes down the table and the stool between people.

Will I have to stop my medicine?

No. Keep taking everything your doctor has prescribed, including hormone therapy, and tell us what you take. If you want to change anything, talk to your prescriber first.

How many visits will I need?

It depends on you. Anahit suggests a short run of visits, checks in with you along the way and tells you honestly when it is not doing what you hoped. There is no package to sign up for.

Does insurance cover it?

Some plans include an acupuncture benefit and some do not. We are out of network, we give you an itemized receipt, and your plan decides what it pays back. How fees work walks through it.

Come in for a first visit

Tell us when you are free and how to reach you. Anahit calls back to find a time. Keep medical details for the visit, where she can listen properly.
